FRH, if you did not realize till now stands for Forest Rest House in the Trek Himachal parlance. FRHs are part of Himachal's and a trekker's existence. They are everywhere. On the ridge at Triund, in the Bhang growing hamlet of Silhabdhani, at the pastures of Yada Goth and even at Darkund. It was on my second visit to Darkund that I realized how beautiful the FRH looks with a Deodar background. As is true for all FRHs in good locations, its from the British times. Away from the road and crowds, nestled in a thick jungle, surrounded by wilderness, close to the Dhauladhars and part of 3 trails (Baleni Pass, Gaj Pass, Minkaini Pass) across the Dhauladhars, its that little jewel which every trekker must know of. Even if you are not a hardcore trekker but just a day kind, you can always hike to Darkund from Tur, spend a couple of lovely peaceful nights at the FRH and go back a changed person. Hats off to the firangis, their legacy still occupies most of my mindspace.
