Mountain Passes in Himachal

Trekking in Himalayan region will always be incomplete if you do not cross a pass. The sheer thrill of crossing a high mountain pass from one watershed to another is beyond description. The way landscape, culture, vegetation changes suddenly from one side of the pass to another needs to be seen to be believed. All in all, to me, crossing a pass has the undescribable feeling of completing an ancient pilgrimage, an excitement greater than that of winning at my favourite game and fantastic views of 2 different worlds.

This section is specifically for mountain passes in the various ranges of Himalayas within Himachal. As with the treks, this gets updated only when I cross a pass. So, along with the GPS trails, on these pages you will find the position, altitude of the passes with other general information about the area around. You will also find details about closest villages on either side and information about getting to the passes and the treks you can go to through these.

I have a suggestion for your site.. The listing of Mountain passes there is in the order you crossed them; though a regular fan/visitor (like yours truly) would find that really helpful (all he/she would need to do is go to the bottom of the list to read about your latest exploits), a real visitor (someone who needs information about some pass) would have to scroll through the list.. I think that's an expendable exercise...

@Shikhin - thanks for the suggestion. I already have that and some other basic menu changes in mind (for other sections as well). The winter will be slow trekking wise, so will spend a lot of time working on the site.

Hi Rijul,

I have not been to Shingar till now, so cannot provide any information. I have been to one of the base camps at Ookhal Mool though. However, Shingar is on my to-do list. So, if you check back in 4-5 months time, it maybe there. If you like, I can drop you an email when I start for it.

Cheers,
Shalabh
