Background
There is actually not much background to this trek. I am now getting into uncharted and unknown waters. The quota of what I had partly seen and wanted to complete has been exhausted save the pilgrimage to Bada Bhangal , which is still pending. Since I have titled this page as 'Background', I guess some kind of ground at the back of this trek is in order.
On the last trek, Patrick and Gavin had mentioned their desire to trek to Manali.I picked up that thread and had a discussion with Jango. I wanted to do this via Bada Bhangal but it was too late in the year to be thinking of that promised land, so I settled for doing this via the Sari pass. Also on agenda was a day return trip to a holy lake some way of the trail, known as Dainsar. Gavin and Patrick ditched me for this trip, for different reasons, which I have no reason to go into. I need to thank them though for giving me this idea.
The discussion with Jango also concluded that we would not need a porter, that we would carry the tent and the food and associated stuff ourselves. The plan was to meet in Barot on the 8th of October and start on the 9th, the trek was to be 6 days, reaching somewhere close to Manali. Actually, we did not plan much for 2 reasons; In the face of unfavourable weather, all plans anyway come unstuck and I am not the much planning kind, neither is Jango. So, we were to pack our bags, cross our hearts and hope for the best and set off into the mountains.
