Trek Route

You can either start this from Lake wali Mata. Take a bus there from Chamba (the bus runs to Nayagran) or start from Lamu. Click this link to get the start point on Open Street Maps. Below is a verbal description of the route with waypoints or visual aids, which will help you identify this route.

  1. Lamu - Lake wali Mata: From Lamu, head up the ridge from the road. Walk parallel to the road, though the road wont be visible. 2 hours into the walk, you will need to walk down to the Holi road, then walk or take a bus to Holi. Holi to Lake wali Mata is an exciting bus ride. The road is narrow and the bus ride scary at times!
  2. Lake wali Mata - Yada Goth: East from Lake wali Mata, 50 metres into the road under construction (as on Sep 2009), take left into the trail. Walk down to bridge, scary one this! Cross over, walk the trail and pass Surai on your left. Only one trail along the way, waypoints Bela wali Mata, Chhani Goth and Yada Goth.
  3. Yada Goth - Jalsu Pass: Easy and one trail to the pass, snaking slowy upto the pass.
  4. Jalsu Pass - Khodtru Dhar: Cross the pass, walk straight down the other side. Very steep walk, aim for the stream again, the point where the stream flattens a little. Cross the stream, this part is waymarked with a 'cafe', a tea shop. Walk on the left bank of the stream till it reaches a vertical face. Then, cross over and reach Parai ,waymarked again. A few minutes walk from Parai on the right bank is Khodtru Dhar.
  5. Khodtru Dhar - Uttrala: Right bank start, cross over the left bank after sometime via a bridge. Clear trail past Bakluddu and reservoir to Uttrala. While at the left bank, you will see a village on the right bank after 2.5 hours from start, means you are on the right trail. Not much to get lost on this part.

Remember to go by waypoints and before you use the GPS trail, read this page as well.
