Trek Route
The trek starts from Bir. Bir can be reached by bus or taxi from Dharamshala. Most of the trail on this trek (apart from that near the pass) is easy to find and walk on. Click this link to see the map of the trail on OSM (Open Street Maps).
- Bir - Billing: From Bir, walk along the road to Billing. 50 metres up the road, on the left, a trail starts towards Billing. This criss crosses the Bir-Billing road 4-5 times and is easy to see. On the way is also a very small local temple. The trail is around 4 km in length, around 10 shorter than the road.
- Billing - Rajgundha: The road from Bir to Billing at some point was planned for extension to Barot via Rajgundha. As a result, the trail from Billing to Rajgundha is almost a jeepable road apart from minor damage in some places. About 3 metres wide, it runs through a jungle of oak, rhododendrons and conifers and affords brilliant views of parts of the Kangra valley, the new found haze permitting.
- Rajgundha - Bada Gran: The trail continues from Rajgundha to Kukkargunda. From Kukkargundha, take a slight right towards the Uhl river. Around 2 km later, the small trail hits a bridge on Uhl. Cross the bridge and take a right. The trail passes through fields and goes straight to Bada Gran. On the way from the bridge to Bada Gran, you should be able to see Kukkargundha and Rajgundha.
- Bada Gran - Kothikodh: This is a bus road, length 5 km. No directions needed.
- Kothikodh - Badhdhar: Leave the road at Kothikodh and head left (North-East) to the village. From Kothikodh, take the path to Uparli Kodh and then head towards the stream. After crossing a small bridge, head upstream on the left bank. The trail leaves the stream after sometime and enters a rhododendron jungle till it reaches another small stream. Climb along this stream for sometime. The first prominent ridge to your left is Badhdhar. Its a sloping tree-less area.
- Badhdhar - Nohru Pass: From Badhdhar, looking North-East, you can see a barren gully, leading right upto a peak. Look slightly right and another gully is visible. This is the Nohru Pass. There is hardly any trail. Walk along the stream basin or criss cross it and head straight for this gully. Once you hit the top, take right on the ridge and walk for 5-10 minutes. A very small makeshift temple with red flags and flower offerings is the Nohru Pass. Look out for it carefully.
- Nohru Pass - Baghnar: Just after the temple, walk straight down the slope. Its a very steep slope and no visible trail. The idea is to walk down along the first visible stream till you see a small hut in a grassland, which is Baghnar. An alternative is to take the trail from the temple, south along the ridge from Nohru Pass and lead straight down to Lohardi. This is much longer though.
- Baghnar - Lohardi: The trail is visible all the way from Baghnar till it reaches a proper village path connecting Chherna to Bhujling. Once you reach the village path, take right on it and walk into Chherna. A path leads straight to Swarh and Lohardi.
