Trek Route
The road branches off to the right of NH20 just a couple of hundred metres from the Victoria bridge in Mandi towards Palampur. I do not have too many details of the road since I have not been on the road but am told that small cars are normally not the best things to travel to Parashar, you are better off in a SUV like Tata Sumo, Safari etc. There are enough available for hire in Mandi for a day trip.
Now for the more adventurous, there is a trek from a village called Diyori near Pandoh. Pandoh is 18 km from Mandi on NH 21 towards Manali. Bang in the middle of Pandoh, you take a left on the road, cross a one lane bridge over the River Beas and take the road to Shivabadhar. Some 6 km into this road just after a bridge, a dusty country lane turns right. Around 3 km on this road, at the end of this almost road is the village of Diyori. Ask anyone around and they will tell you the way to Parashar. The ridge that forms the bowl of Parashar is visible from Diyori and the trail is pretty straightforward. You have to be special to get lost on this one. I have marked the trail on open street maps and you can zoom in on this page to see the trail or use this OSM Frame.
The trail starts at Diyori, takes you through the villages of Lehar and Bandal and finally on the Parashar ridge. It is a serious climb of around 1400 metres from Diyori, the total trail length is around 9 km. Budget 4-6 hours for the climb.
For Tunga Mata, looking North East from Parashar, a ridge is visible. You can also see a village below the ridge. Head for the ridge and the trail heads North-East up along the ridge. The trail to Tunga Mata is also very clear. On the way, do not forget to peep through some of conifer jungles. You can get vistas of the higher Himalayas. Tunga Mata is on a ridge top, overlooking the Beas valley.
